 Abstract
The war transformed oil from a ?weapon? into one of the vital elements used in the modern war. The confrontation between Germany and the Soviet Union for the control over the Romanian territory and the exploitation of its grain and oil resources, the revisionist policies of Hungary, Bulgaria and Soviet Union, the collapse of the regional system of alliances, the incapacity of France and Great Britain to help the Romanian state after the beginning of the war, each of these causes and all together, rendered more and more difficult the geo-political situation of the Romanian state. Oil played an important role in ensemble of methods used by the Romanian state to promote its interests and to counterbalance the Great Powers hostile objectives.
