 Abstract
International interest about the environment protection, as well as the high prices on petroleum market, led to a new approach concerning fuels. Mid-distillate increasing demand imposed the express development of biofuels, especially biodiesel, plants in order to assure the necessary of clean fuels for classic and novel fuels mixtures. Meeting the new clean fuels challenge requires new strategies in refineries management, and this seems to be of great benefit for Romanian economy. The best economical solution is the integration of biofuels small and medium enterprises within the traditional units of petroleum refining industry. In this case, the petroleum products will meet the European Union exigencies concerning the required quality.
