 Abstract
This paper examines how the market oriented neo-liberal policies implemented 1980's in Turkey had affected household's spending in general and then in relation to that examines the changing nature of these families' decisions for their children's education. In light of this situation, eight year-compulsory education policy which has been implemented since 1997 will be analyzed.

 Rezumat
Acest articol examinează modul în care politicile de piaţă neoliberale implementate în Turcia în anii 80 au afectat cheltuielile unei gospodării în general, precum şi modul în care au afectat deciziile familiei privind educaţia copiilor. În acest context, a fost analizată politica privind educaţia obligatorie de opt ani, implementată începând cu anul 1997.
